Welcome to Sandyford Catechism
Faith formation outside school hours for primary and secondary students.
|
What faith formation should my child receive?
The Diocese recommends that children have continuous faith formation for six years in primary school. That is two years leading to Holy Communion, two years continuing faith formation, and two years leading to Confirmation.
What happens if they are not in a Catholic school?
In Sandyford Parish, where a child is attending a school which does not provide Catholic faith formation, children may be prepared by a parish-approved catechist.
Children attending Kilternan Church of Ireland School, who have received some faith formation in school, may attend for one year prior to sacraments to complete their faith formation.
Children in full time home education should contact the Parish Priest directly.

Who runs the classes?
Classes are taught by Rosemary Swords, a qualified catechist approved by the parish. The class teacher is also accompanied by parents, according to the Diocesan Child Protection policy.
Where are the classes?
Classes are held in the Parish Centre, St Mary's, Sandyford Village, which is situated beside the church.
When are classes held?
Class run throughout the school year with the same holidays and midterms as school.
Children must attend for the full year. Absence for serious family reasons should be discussed with Rosemary. Out of respect for the child and their faith journey, reception of Sacraments depends on adequate preparation.
